Shipping cost calculation system

To determine the shipping cost, we compare two types of weight, and the higher weight will be used for the final charge.

1. Gross Weight

The actual weight of the parcel measured on a scale.

2. Volumetric Weight (Volume Weight)

This weight is calculated from the dimensions of the package.
It applies when a large box is lightweight but occupies more space in the aircraft.

The formula for volumetric weight is:

Width × Length × Height ÷ 5000 = Volumetric Weight (kg)

Example Calculation

Box size:
• Width = 45 cm
• Length = 62 cm
• Height = 40 cm

Volumetric Weight:

45 × 62 × 40 ÷ 5000 = 23 kg

📌 Actual Weight = 20 kg
📌 Volumetric Weight = 23 kg

We must use the higher weight for billing. Therefore, the shipping cost will be calculated based on 23 kg.

Note: Shipping rates are calculated by comparing the actual weight and volumetric weight. The higher weight is always used because large boxes take up more aircraft space, even if they are not heavy.
